Basic Kendo Terms.

Kendo (剣道): The Way of the Sword (Lit. Ken: Sword, Do: Path)

Kenshi or Kendoka (剣士・剣道家): A Kendo Practitioner

Dojo (道場): Training Hall - Specifically for Martial Arts

Sensei (先生): Teacher or Instructor

Shihan (師範): Head Instructor or Master

Rei (礼): Etiquette or Respect (Also referred to as Reiho or Rei)

Ashi Sabaki (足捌き): Footwork

Do (胴): A Strike to the Torso

Ippon (一本):  A Point in Kendo (Lit. One Point)

Kamae (構え): Ready Position

Keiko (稽古): Practice 

Kiai (気合): Spirit shouting

Kihon (基本): Basics

Kote (小手): A Strike to the Wrist

Men (面): A Strike to the Head

Shiai (試合): Tournament

Suburi (素振り): Swinging or Striking Practice

Suriashi (摺り足): "Sliding" Footwork Used in Kendo

Tsuki (突): A Strike to the Throat

Bogu (防具):　Armour

Men (面): Helmet

Kote (小手): Gloves

Do (胴): Torso Armor

Tare (垂): Apron Covering the Upper Legs

Bokken or Bokuto (木剣・木刀): Wooden Sword

Hakama (袴): Traditional Japanese Trousers

Kendogi or Keikogi(剣道衣・稽古衣): Kendo Jacket

Shinai (竹刀): Bamboo Sword

Baba Nobuhara

  Baba Nobuharu, also known as Baba Nobufusa (born 1514/15 A.D and died 1575 A.D) was one of the much trusted 24 Generals of the great Takeda Shingen and is often mentioned in the Takeda clan’s Koyo Gunkan, diaries of war matters as a major personal advisor to Shingen. He loyally served three generations of the Takeda clan in his 40 years service. Baba played a major role in the five battles fought between the Takeda and their rivals the Uesugi clan between 1553~1564, known as the Kawanakajima Campaign. Baba led the attack on the Uesugi’s strategically important Katsurayama Castle in March of 1557, when baba and his men stormed the castle, killing most of the garrison inside and burning the castle while their families committed mass suicide. He was awarded the position of castellan of Matsumoto Castle from 1550, while it was still known as Fukashi Castle, and was responsible for enlarging it considerably.   Journal of Chinese, Japanese and Korean Military History. I intend starting a journal alongside the World Budo Development Society Newsletter with effect from February 2021. In order that it can be successful, I will need reliable and highly respected individuals that can assist in the venture.
